Lafayette- Funeral Services will be held for Mrs. Virginia Ruth Redmon Maxwell at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Indian Bayou United Methodist Church of Rayne, LA with Rev. Chris A. Blanchard, Pastor of Covenant United Methodist Church of Lafayette, LA officiating. Visitation will be held at Indian Bayou UMC of Rayne beginning at 10:00AM on Saturday, October 18, 2014 until just prior to service time. Interment will follow church services at the Indian Bayou Methodist Cemetery. Mrs. Maxwell passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at her residence in Lafayette, LA on Monday, October 13, 2014.
Virginia’s professional career as a Nurse covered a span of twenty plus years in which she served several different departments of Lafayette General Medical Center. She was best known for serving as the first Registered Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound Sonographer for Lafayette General’s newly opened Ultrasound Department. In addition to being a Pastor’s wife for fifteen churches during their marriage years, she was also active in Masonic related events and served as First Lady of Royal Arch Masons, of the State of Louisiana in 1993. She was also a Past Worthy Matron of Lafayette Chapter 46, Order of Eastern Star, Lafayette and served as Mother Advisor of the Order of Rainbow for Girls. She was also the recipient of the Grand Cross of Color, International Order of Rainbow for Girls. In 2011, Virginia was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by Order of the Eastern Star in recognition of Loyal and Outstanding Contributions for 50 or more years of service to the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Rev. G. Larry Maxwell, Sr.; daughters, Mrs. Linda Viator Perrin and Ms. Judy Viator Ames; step-sons, Dr. Commander, Ret. Navy, USA, Oran Joseph Viator, Jr and Colonel Ret. Army, USA, G. Larry Maxwell, Jr. , M.D.; sister, Betty Kathryn Redmon James; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and seven nieces and three nephews.
