Viola Duplechain ""Mama Sister""  LaDay
Church Point—A Mass of Christian Burial for Viola “Mama Sister” Duplechain LaDay, 104, of Church Point will be celebrated on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, Church Point. Father Henry J. Davis, SSJ will serve as celebrant, and Father Justin Arockiasamy, SVD will serve as concelebrant. Interment will follow in Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Cemetery #1.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 7:30 A.M. until service time in Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, Church Point, with a rosary being led by Legion of Mary members at 10:00 A.M.

Mrs. LaDay passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 11:34 P.M. in Acadia-St. Landry Hospital , Church Point.

A native and lifelong resident of Church Point, Mrs. LaDay was a faithful member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic. She lived out her faith as a member of Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a member of the Legion of Mary. She worked for many years as a food service worker.

Survivors include her daughters, Marjorie Lee Meche of Church Point, and Marjorie Nell Broussard and husband, Preston of Fairfield, CA; sons, Joseph Lee LaDay of Opelousas, Aaron LaDay and wife, Joy of Sacramento, CA, Martin Lee LaDay and wife, Margaret of Church Point, and Bert James LaDay of Church Point; 25 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 99 great-great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preceding Mrs. LaDay in death were her husband of over 50 years, Leon LaDay; parents, Alcee and Elizabeth Coleman Duplechain; sisters, Lelia Brown, Lucy Emerson, Josephine Johnson, Bernice Morris, Ruth Anderson, Caroline Harmon; and Sill Frank; and brothers, Willie Duplechain, Louis Duplechain, Davis Pitre, Irvine Meche, Willie Duplechain, Warren Duplechain, Buster Pitre, and Remi’ Duplechain.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Florence Simon, Penny Duplechain, Charles Labbe, Becky Labbe, Father Bart Landry, Mrs. Loreta Hawkins, Margaret LaDay, Alfreda LaDay, Elizabeth Brown Guillory, the children of Sybil Charlot, Dr. Michael Felton, M.D. and his staff, Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home and staff, and Acadia-St. Landry Hospital and staff.
