Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Richard L. Szekely, 62 who passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at 10:56 A.M. with his family at his side at Lafayette General Hospital in Lafayette.
Rev. Jimmy Broussard, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Crowley will be officiating for the services. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. in the Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley. Visitation will resume on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 8:00 A.M. until time of services.
Mr. Szekely was born to the late James and Erma Szekely, September 26, 1954, in Titusville, Pennsylvania. He married Marie “Bernadette” Guilbeaux on April 30, 1983. Richard owned and operated his business until his health prohibited him any longer. He had a passion for writing and wildlife photography. His favorite hobby was fishing which he did until he was no longer able.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Szekely of Rayne; four daughters, Sarah and husband, Brandon Lege’ of Morse, Angie Szekely Swanepoel and fiancé Jose Naranjo of Rogers AR., Lisa and husband, Brock Boudreaux of Crowley, and Charity and husband, Toby Istre of Egan; one daughter-in-law, Betty Szekely; eighteen grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three sisters, Janet Johnson of Wilkesboro, NC, Debbie Long of Massillon, OH and Linda Burrell of Panama City, FL.
Mr. Szekely was preceded in death by his son, Shawn Szekely; his parents, James and Erma Szekely; four brothers, Jimmy, Tommy, Julius and Russell Szekely; three infant brothers and one infant sister.
