My last visit with Uncle Rabbit is one I will charish forever! We had so much fun--- we laughed and talked about everything, as we always did. He had just had his house painted and he was very happy with the results. I can still see his smile when I commented about the color--- ME: Uncle Floyd, I like that color, what made you choose that? HIM: Lanora, you know I like bright colors, it's more of a light maroon, with a dark maroon trim. ME: You went from yellow to maroon, I like it! We talked about the family reunion and as only he can say it, "Oh yea, I'm gonna be there even if I have to go in a wheelchair." I asked him about wearing his leg and he told me well Lanora, me and that leg don't make it. :) He was so happy!
I told him I needed a picture for something I was doing for the family reunion and went into the living room. We talked about the pictures and when I went back in the kitchen I asked him for an Ensure and to my surprise, he drank one with me. (Normally he would not drink one with me because he had one earlier that day but, he really didn't like them.) We talked and laughed, and talked and laughed. He had a certain way he held his lips and moved his head, which I enjoyed so much. Before our visit was over, I said to him, let's take a selfie. I thought he was going to cut-up but, he didn't he was like Okay, with a big smile on his face and that certain little look we all have. It was so cool! For one of the pictures, I told him he would have to press the button because his arms were longer than mine. He got such a kick out of that. When he pressed the button, it clicked like five times he said Oh Lanora, that little ole thing is very sensative. He laughed, and laughed. We lauged and laughed. When I got ready to leave we hugged and told each other "love you" and see you soon. That was the last time I saw Uncle Floyd. I did not make it back to Church Point until the Friday of Mother's Day weekend. His door was closed, which we all know is a sign that he's in bed resting. The same thing happened on Saturday. On Sunday, he was gone.
I'm going to miss Uncle Floyd. I'm going to miss his smile, fussing, laughter, joking, our special relationship, but especially our wonderful conversations.
